We have concluded a license agreement with Hanwha Solutions for EP Patent 2220689 (EP '689) on behalf of our client Solarwatt. This allows our client, a German photovoltaic manufacturer, to use the QCells PERC Technology, which is protected by the licensed patent EP '689. This is a proprietary technology for the production of solar cells, a technology that improves the efficiency and performance of silicon-based solar cells.
Hanwha Solutions is the parent company of the photovoltaic manufacturer Qcells and has filed several patent infringement lawsuits against competitors such as Jinko Solar, Longi Solar, REC and Trina Solar in various countries in recent years. The verdicts have varied greatly from region to region.
"The license agreement with Solarwatt ensures that customers across Europe will continue to have unhindered access to a sought-after and future-oriented solar technology in a fair and competitive research and development environment," said Hanwha Qcells’ Managing Director Moon Hwan Cha. Solarwatt Managing Director Detlef Neuhaus spoke of a "fair solution for all parties". "The agreement with Hanwha Solutions creates legal certainty not only for us, but also for our installation partners and our customers," Neuhaus continued.
