Attorney and European Litigator Alexander Son

Meissner Bolte extends competence into Korea

Meissner Bolte, one of the leading German full-service IP law firms, is strengthening its International  competence: With attorney and European Patent Litigator Alexander Son, Meissner Bolte now has an expert on Korea and Korean IP law on its team. Alexander brings with him a wealth of expertise as well as important contacts and know-how to help expand the firm's Korean network. Alexander has been advising German and Korean clients in national and cross-border IP prosecution and litigation proceedings since 2001 and is the acting president of the German-Korean Legal Society (DKJG).

"With the addition of Alexander Son, Meissner Bolte will be further expanding the Korean area of our International Business," says Dr. Stefan M. Zech, LL.M. Partner at Meissner Bolte. "The firm has a very strong history with business in Japan and we aim to build on this knowledge in expanding our Korean client base. As Korea is one of the top 10 world economies and continues to gain International importance, especially in the electronics, automotive, IT and biotech industries, there is huge potential here in the IP field. With Alexander Son, we have the right expert in our team."

In addition to handling existing cases, Alexander sees his task as building networks with Korean companies that want to file or protect their patents in the European Union as well as with the Korean IP law firms that assist these clients locally. His goal is to raise awareness in Korea of the Unified Patent Court (UPC), which opened on June 1, and to make potential clients aware of their rights and opportunities in Europe. With the start of the UPC, a new chapter in patent law has begun in 17 European countries, and this holds great opportunities for inventors in other countries. Alexander Son is also active for German clients who wish to file patents in Korea or need support in patent cases.

"Meissner Bolte is very well positioned with its large mixed team of legal and patent attorneys, so I can approach larger companies and law firms in Korea and offer them our support," says Alexander Son. "It is an advantage that Korean is my native language, so we can discuss complex issues without language barriers. I am very much looking forward to the challenge of expanding Meissner Bolte’s reach in Korea and being part of such a competent team."
